Road Signs: These are great kites and we're convinced that if people see them flying, we'll sell more. How to get them flying? Mak them down for friends like you! Kevin Sanders from Australia is a wonderfully creative kitist who combines technical proficiency and solid avionics with a light hearted sense of humor. In this case, the result is a series of flying road signs that offer unexpected phrasing. We're making three styles -- the round, the rectangular, and the diamond. We can easily change the colors and even the wording for you. Think fun! Think creative! Think what road signs would say in a perfect world.... Each piece is constructed with a mesh inflation panel, a lifter loop, and a drogue for added stability. Fly them independently or in stacks. Signs measure 5 feet across and are 25 feet tall, not including the two attached drogues. A lifter isn't necessary for these able fliers. The loop is added to make it easier to stack pieces in a train of signs. Put one word on each and spell out a message! Recently I asked Sanders about the inspiration for the project. Sky Streamers: These are HUGE sheets of fabric - about five feet wide at the base and 100 feet tall. Anchor one end to the ground and the other to a sizable lifter. Defective Octopus: That's right. it is defective. The fabric looks perfectly fine. But it won't hold air and that means the kite doesn't fully inflate. No inflation means no flight. Now maybe you have a secret fabric sealer we don't know about. Or maybe you want to gang it on display or fill it with Styrofoam peanuts and create a statue. There are all kinds of possibilities. We just don't want to throw it away. List price on a 45 foot Octopus is $1400. We'll sell this one for $500. I have a Sharky made from the same fabric. List is $350. Sale price $150. Chinese Opera Mask: This intese flying creation measures ten feet wide and thirty feet long with the connected tube tails. It is patterned after the classic performance masks of the Beijing Opera. This is a great flying kite, designed by Pedro and Esteban Gonzalez of Spain. He's completely soft, fully inflatable and performs with or without a lifter. Giant PL Fish: This is the BIG one. Body length is about 40 feet with extended fin tubes adding another 30 feet to the overall impression. We have a cool model that has been out of the bag twice. It is in what peter calls "as new" condition. The current exchange rate places the maxis ar about $4500 plus shipping from New Zealand. But you can add something enormous to your bag for $3500.

I just received an interesting call. An old friend is cleaning out his kite shed and found an original Peter Lynn Octopus dating back to the early 1990's. The kite has been flown three times -- on grass, not sand -- and is in pristine condition. Colors are bright pink with black accents. The interesting part is the size. This one is mid-way between a middi and a maxi. It is 67 feet long and 8 feet wide. The long and narrow size was never put into production so this one is a unique collectible. Asking price is $2750. Just in from Hank Manseau: Spirit is probably the best-flying inflatable I have ever had the pleasure of flying. I typically fly it on 80# line and it is an incredibly graceful and efficient kite with a very good lift to drag ratio. I find that it flies extremely well from 7-8 mph to 20 mph. Beyond that range it becomes unstable. The bottom line is... this is a GREAT kite!
