We’ve just received the first of our new inflatable Sea Horses. Designed by Lucy Jonkman, Kerry St Dennis, and Carlos Simoes, this fun piece of line art is supported by a kite line in two places and swims realistically in the air. Aquatic inflatables connect to a flying line from the head, and then are suspended from a lower tow-point by a full bridle. Wind fills the shape out through two mesh panels. Those New Zealand kiters come up with the coolest stuff! We are pleased to be working with Robert vanWeers on a variety of projects. The latest is his series of inflatable Marine Tropical Fish. Our first big Marine Tropical is the "Moorish Idol" (Zanclus cornutus if you speak Latin) The Idol has a very long, white, sickle-shaped dorsal fin, two broad black bars on the body, and a colored saddle across the snout. We make them a bit bigger than you normally find in nature – 3 meters (about 9 feet). And if you are thinking of making one yourself, be warned. There are no straight seams so be prepared to catch up on your curve sewing! It isn’t as easy as it looks! A string of Idols makes a wonderful impact in the sky. But you can start with one for just $240 and then add more to the line later. Let us know what color you'd like! The second of our Marine Tropical Series is a "Copper Banded Butterfly Fish" (Chelmon Rostratus), also known as beaked or Longnose Butterfly. We call them LBF for short. They are attached to the line in two places and are very similar in structure to the Idols. They are also a bit complex to build and consist of around 60 panels. We’re offering the LBF in the hefty 3 meter size for $240. (That’s about nine feet). Get creative and we’ll make any colors if you like. Another addition to the Marine Series is the "French Angel Fish". (Pomacanthus Paru) The body is a bit wider and the dorsal not as extended as in the Idol. But the big eight foot design inflates quickly and dances gracefully under almost any lifter. All of the Tropicals attach at two points -- a longer bridle where the angle can be adjusted, and a top stabilizing line. We’re offering the FAF in red, blue, orange, green, yellow, or purple - -each with black accents. And like the other Tropicals, they are priced at $240. Did you know that once a "Clownfish" (Amphiprion percula) selects a host, it never strays far?? Sounds like the perfect addition to any kite bag. Our inflatable Clown is loaded with extra details. Check out the spined dorsal fin, rounded eyes, and deflation zipper. Attach it to your flying line by connecting the top stabilizer, and then attaching the front bridles. We offer two sizes -- 10 feet long for $240 or a huge 20 foot Clown for $500. Clowns are found in nature (and also in Disney films) in varieties of red and orange, but we’ll make them any color you like.

Piranha Drogue: It's a quirky little piece with all those sharp "teeth". But used in the proper application, it will add some real interest to your flying display. Piranha come in a two foot model for $12 and a five foot size for $50. We've also got a big eight footer for $99. They perform like any other drogue -- adding drag where you need it and visual appeal as well. Don't get bitten!

Flying Friends: Here's something completely different -- People Socks -- with wide eyes, flapping arms, and huge, huge grins on their faces. We call them Flying Friends. We've seen all kinds of tricks used to attach laundry to a flying line. Most involve knots which cause abrasion and weaken line strength. Our approach is a lot more simple. We wrap small carabiners into the main flying line. Normally, three twists work just fine. When the line is slack, you can slide the "biner" anywhere you want. But when the kite goes up and tension builds on the line, the "biner" is locked in place. It's quick, easy, and doesn't reduce line strength.
