Bird on the Wire:

Inspired by literature, the BOTW is poetry in flight.

This is a large, modernistic kite design which has a bold presence in the sky. The eight foot wing provides plenty of loft in light breezes. And the extended tail adds all the stability you need. When he first flew this new kite, designer John Freeman was reminded of a poem about a bird sitting safely on a dangerous power line. We don’t ever recommend flying near electric lines. But we understand the allure of a majestic kite perched effortlessly in a blue sky.

Big-Wing Airplane Soar with this sophisticated airplane kite!

Everyone knows the Wright Brothers were kite fliers. In 1903, they took the strings off their kites and added an engine. That changed everything!

This streamlined airplane kite would make the Wright Brothers proud. Support lines can be tensioned for almost any flying conditions. It soars on light breezes and is reinforced to handle stronger gusts as well.

Big Wing Airplane
This is a big kite -- 11 feet wide and six feet tall. But it disassembles into a convenient 36 inch package. The sophisticated detailing and performance will reward even the most advanced fliers.

Falcon Delta - Exceptional flight in a wide wind range. Our best delta!

The Falcon is a big delta - over ten feet wide - that flies at an exceptionally high angle and an unusual range of winds.

These are great kites for recreational flying, but also practical tools for lifting cameras or other lightweight equipment.

Design features include a high-aspect-ratio profile, an extended keel, and a velcro center spine attachment that allows the kite to be stored in the 60 inch fabric bag.

Like all of our deltas, the leading edge spars are sewn in place so they won't creep up to the nose. Click here to see colors. Available in rainbow, warm or cool colors for $125. Click here to see a photo of all three kites.

7 Foot Zenith Delta:

These great kites were originally designed in South Africa. They are ideal for recreational flying, and also practical flying tools for lifting cameras or training raptors.

Zenith Delta

The "Zenith" will fly well in light or strong winds, develops uncommon lift for a delta, and in breezes over 5 mph will lock-in almost directly overhead.

It is a larger Delta, 7 feet wide and 5 tall with an almost symmetrical lower-aspect-ratio shape.

Design features include an abbreviated "pocket" keel and adjustable bridle line. The keel will slightly inflate to keep the kite from over-flying.

Zenith Delta

We built the Zenith tough with a carbon frame, molded fitting, and a lightweight ripstop nylon sail. $90 each. Choose red, gold, or purple - each with a black keel. A fabric bag is included.

SunCatcher Rokkaku

Looking for big fun? Here's a big kite to find it with!

  • Traditional Japanese Design
  • 7.5 Feet Tall and 6 Feet Wide
  • Tough Nylon and Carbon Materials
  • Reflective Mylar Panel

The Rokkaku was originally designed for the classic kite battles of Japan. Large paper kites flown by teams would tangle, tip, or crash together and the last kite in the sky was the winner.

SunCatcher Roks

The stability of this modern Rokkaku makes it great for fun flying, or lifting cameras. Adjustable bow lines allow tuning for different winds. We've added a "suncatching" mylar panel for a dramatic appearance in the sky.
Choose rainbow, yellow, red, black, or purple for $199 each. Suncatcher Colors
SunCatcher Rok

Larger kites are excellent for experienced or more advanced kiters. To assemble, connect the spar sections together and insert into the pockets at corners of the sail. Use the sliders on the back to tension the bow line and curve the sail back. Use more bow for stronger winds and less bow for lighter breezes.

You can also tune the “tow point” where your flying line attaches to the bridle. Make small adjustments, sliding up for lighter winds and down for stronger ones until the kite performs just right for you

Fly in 4-12 mph of wind on 300 pound line.Use 100 to 150 pound flying line.

Skylark is easy to assemble and easy to fly. It is an exciting and distinctive, introductory-level kite with long tails that not only decorate the sky, but add stability as well.

At the base of the kite, slip the flexible spreader between the spine and the fabric. Insert one end into a fabric pocket. Marconi:

The Marconi will dance at the end of your string with so little pull, you'll have to check to make sure it is still there!

Kite historians know that Marconi invented the radio before anyone made radio towers. So he used a kite to lift an antenna for the first Trans-Atlantic broadcast. But Marconi's kite looked nothing like this!

Marconi

Marconi

Our futuristic flying design measures four feet wide and tall. It is constructed with tough ripstop fabric and a carbon frame. Fly with a matching Transition Tail, or feed it line like a fighter. The built-in stabilizing keel will keep your Marconi from spinning, but you can still maneuver it nicely.

Available in red, yellow, or purple with black accents for $48. Fly on 50 pound line in 5-20 mph of wind.

The Fled - when nothing else will fly.

Combine the best design elements to a Sled and a Flare kite, and you get the Fled.

This is a stable, strong, light-wind kite that flies at a high line angle and is perfect for lifting a small camera or line art.

The Fled

We've constructed the Fled from ripstop sailcloth and carbon framing. They are 5 feet high and 6.5 feet wide. Use 100-200 pound line in 3-12 mph of wind. Fled Colors
Fled Kite

The Fled is very forgiving. It will fly with or without a drogue, and with or without bowing the spreader spar. But we've attached a bow line and drogue because flight is more stable with both. The kite assembles quickly and requires no bridle adjustments.

Designed by Brooks Leffler and Michael Andersen. Click here for assembly instructions.

Available in red, purple or gold with black and white accents. $125.

Traditional Japanese-Style Rokkakus

Back in 1994, we commissioned a series of very special rokkakus based on a series of traditional Japanese kite images. I selected the graphics from history, literature, and folklore. But more importantly, I chose illustrations typically used on rokkakus.

Now that GKPI is making sticked kites, we decided to start with this stunning series of "Kabuki Rokkakus". These are big kites -- seven feet tall and about six wide. They aren't made for fighting. Instead, these steady fliers are made for show, for personal satisfaction, and for fun.

The best news is that we're selling them for as low as $90 each. Check out our special Japanese Rokkaku Pages to see all eight designs and the meaning behind each image.

Please Note: Special care is required when flying large and heavy pulling kites or ground devices.

Such care includes but is not limited to the following:

    • Be sure your flying area is clear of people and obstructions.
    • Be sure you are properly anchored.
    • Be sure your flying line is sufficient for the load it is carrying.
    • Be sure you have the ability to retreive your kite after it is launched.

Large kites can be dangerous: When you fly them, you accept responsibility for any accidents that may result. GKPI assumes no liability for injury or damage.
