The Innovative Designs of
Martin Blais

Check out the delightful soft designs and dramatic painted kites of Martin Blais!

Martin is originally from the Gaspe region of Quebec, Canada. He was an avid flier and kite maker for over ten years in Canada before moving to the USA with his wife Anne in 1997. After studying various kite styles, he decided to concentrate on unique, innovative soft kite designs. He named his company Innovation Kites to capture this very special focus.

Anything is possible. So if you want something different or unique, let us know and we'll have Martin whip up an innovation...

Painted Roks and Fighters

Martin has perfected the technique of applying paint to ripstop fabric for long term durability using his own "secret" paint formula. His oldest painted Rokkaku is still being tested for wear after eight years of rugged flying. Your design should never fade, crack, or diminish with use.

Martin mostly paints classic Japanese traditional images, but can duplicate other illustrations or pictures on request. A family portrait? Corporate logo? Your dog in the sky??

Trust me when I tell you that these images are as bold and dramatic as any painted in Japan. The artistry is stunning and the craftsmanship is excellent. But these roks are *better* then the Japanese ones in one important aspect. They aren't made of paper.

A painted five foot Rokkakus is just $300 or 18 inch Indian-style Fighter only $150.

It is amazing how many people at festivals stop and ask Martin about his painting technique. His answer to their inquiries is that his mystery process will be revealed upon his death! Hopefully, that will be a long time coming!

The Whale Bol

This is a really unique bol -- made with 3/4 oz nylon Bainbridge. It is twenty feet in diameter.

What makes this new creation really unusual are the five 3D whales that decorate the perimeter. They are each six feet long and stand out along the trailing edge of the seascape design.

Martin has also added a $70 Petzl swivel bearing.

Whale Bol

The whale can also be replaced by a six foot dolphin. Or maybe we could get him to use sharks and you could fly it in Florida. Nawww....

This new bol is now available from GKPI for $1600.

The Sweeney

Here is a showpiece!

The Sweeney is a bol with a snowflake inside. The bol size of the prototype is 15 feet in diameter. The snowflake inside the bol is 7.5 feet in diameter by 8 feet long; the tail is 18 feet long.

The Sweeney
Martin is especially fond of this design. It was named after a friend in Montreal who ordered the giant spinning piece but never lived to see it. Mike Sweeney was a famous computer graphics designer and created the software used in the films Jurassic Park and Death Becomes Her. The Sweeney can be made in any color or size. A fifteen foot model is $1400.
