I'm finding after 36 hours, I can no longer modify the posts that I've previously made. Is there a setting in the forum software that determines this? I'd like to be able to edit and modify my own posts indefinitely so as to not have to weigh down a thread topic with too many extraneous posts when simply adding or clarifying information (or correcting syntax and spelling).

There is a setting, but it it painful to look through the admin settings on my phone.
I believe that the default setting is there to preserve continuity of the thread. On this I will bow to a consensus. So if you feel that you should be able to edit a post forever, let me know. If you oppose this change, let me know. If you don't care, well I don't need to hear from you.

Speaking as just a user, I think you're opening up for confusion if posts can be edited too long after posting -- you're going to wind up with replies that seem foolish because what they are addressing has been changed.
Also, maybe folks will think a bit about what they are posting if they know it's not going to be able to be revised indefinitely.
I don't know if 36 hours is too short o just right. A better gauge would be after a certain number of (further) replies, but it may well be the software can't do that.
My $0.02, YMMV, etc.

Any other major forum, not necessarily kiting, that I belong to don't appear to restrict the modification/editing of threads or posts. I find this restriction highly unusual and unnecessary.
For particularly long threads, it's often helpful to revise the original post to reflect the most current information. For instance, the kite survey/inventory has a tally in the original post. On a deal forum I frequent, the original post has the most updated discount code for a retailer, the thread grows with the latest submissions of discount codes added to the thread.
New visitors will always refer to the first post in a thread.

I really don't have a problem with it either way, I just don't want to be switching it back and forth. So far you are the only one that cares. So tomorrow, if that has not changed with rabid supporters of the status quo, I will change the setting.
I do find it interesting that the setting exists and defaults to three days. Somebody had to care in the past.

I too, would like to see the "deadline", at least extended to say, 2 weeks, or 10 replies. I feel that would give enough time to make any needed changes, and still preserve continuity. Barry T
I have removed the restriction, if we have continuity problems in the future, I will reinstate the restriction. I do not expect this to happen, but reserve the right to modify this setting if needed.
