I�ve been privileged to observe kite communities around the country and the world. We are by necessity, an optimistic and upbeat group. Kites, after all, rise against the wind.

As I write this, news continues to stream in of human conflicts and natural disasters around our crowded planet. For many of us, kiting is a sanctuary from the realities of headlines that take your breath away. As a new decade gets underway, let's look for the best in people around us. Let's look for safety and prosperity and health and happiness -- and what we can each do in our small way to promote those ends.
