Kite Education
      A Note to Contributors

Starting in April, 1999, the American Kitefliers Association and the Kite Trade Association International will be celebrating National Kite Month. One of the goals of this ambitious effort to promote kiting will be a project to encourage the use of kites as a classroom teaching tool.

A final commitment to this project was approved in January 1999. The initial strategy was to start small, and to compile an extensive collection of web-based teaching materials for Kite Month 2000. However, we are already experiencing a significant demand for support materials from schools and teachers. We have therefore decided to quickly prepare what might be best described as a "compendium" of materials already available online. The results of that effort are before you.

Much of the material presented here is borrowed or adapted from other useful kite-education sites. In all cases, we have included links back to that original site, credited the author, and maintained applicable copyrights.

      • We elected to copy material to our own page rather then link to the original source in order to present a consistent appearance, format, and internals links.

      • We have also elected to reproduce material here since the web is a dynamic entity that is constantly changing. We find that when we simply present links to other pages, that those links quickly change or disappear.

      • We have done our best to credit borrowed material to the author and to protect their copyright. We have also linked directly back to those sites. We note however, that some of this material has been posted on several sites and it is difficult to tell who the original author is.

      • AKA and KTAI are non-profit associations with the goal of promoting kite flying.

The National Kite Month web page is being promoted with a national advertising and public relations effort that includes print and television exposure. We have already secured primary links with Intellicast - an online weather service with 3.5 million hits each month. We believe that including various kite education pages in the National Kite Month site will help them generate traffic and additional interest.

We thank you in advance for your support.

      Sincerely,

      David Gomberg
      KTAI President
